2021 Update/Overview + Permissions
Jun. 22nd, 2021 01:06 pmIt's been a few years since I used this journal regularly, but I've still played the character outside of Dreamwidth which means she's evolved a little since the Entranceway days!
Name: Selene
Age: Hard to say, early 20s?
Gender: Sister
Wiki Link: Bioshock Wiki Article on Big Sisters!
Personality: Very aggressive, especially about whatever she's decided to protect. In canon settings, this especially extends to Cindy Meltzer (though she loves all of her Little Sisters and god help you if you hurt them) and Eleanor Lamb (mostly out of duty). She distrusts adults, especially parents and authority figures, especially parents and guardians she feels are failing their children, and her standards for this are very narrow. She tends to only speak to her wards or whoever she has been convinced to take orders from (Sofia Lamb, basically), and violence is her go-to method of problem solving. Your best bet is to convince her of your dedication to help children/her wards, especially whoever she's most dedicated to, especially if you catch her in a moment where her ward needs more nuanced help than she can provide.
When she's not working, Selene remains serious and tends to take things at face value. Jokes soar right over her head. She's not stupid, just very, very focused on the words. Selene has put her mission over herself to the point where she seems to be at a loss when she's not in her armour, tending to sit quietly while watching her Sisters play. She does hold an interest in puzzles and codes, but she is uncomfortable 'indulging' in her interests when there's more important things to concern herself with.
In a fight, she's very one-track-minded, relying on overpowering her opponent through force. Also, and this goes without saying, really, but if she catches you harming or threatening a child, she will come after you.
Appearance: In armour, basically what you see in the icons and the wiki.
Outside of the armour, she is ghostly, sickly pale, almost green in places. Her hair is nearly white under the grime and cut roughly to about chin-length, and it's a tangled, frizzy mess from a life in saltwater and sweat. She is six foot ten, her eyes are yellow and glowing, and when she speaks, there's a strange overlay to her voice, not unlike a Little Sister... Just with a young woman's voice as the base. (They're a little harder to understand in armour!)
Abilities:
Telekinesis - she can pick up and throw things around with her mind, including adult men and large pieces of debris, and can throw them at deadly speeds
Pyrokinesis - she can create and throw fireballs, blasts of fire, etc etc
Regeneration - ADAM is the source of her powers and what makes Little Sisters nearly immortal, however, as a Big Sister this process has slowed down enough that she can be put down with enough successive damage. To counter that, she can drain the blood of a splicer during a fight to patch herself up.
Telepathy - strictly between herself Little Sisters, and maybe Big Sisters as well. (This is based a little bit on what Eleanor does throughout the game, and also how I rationalize some of the messages left for Mark during Something in the Sea)
Teleportation - theoretically, and again based on Eleanor (and rationalizing how they get to you so quick after the last sister), but Selene doesn't make much use of this and I'll likely entirely forget about it in alternate settings
Not sure if this counts as an ability/power, but she can walk/swim at the bottom of the ocean with no trouble from the pressure? And of course, being stupidly strong and agile.
In Other Settings
Outside of Bioshock settings, I play Selene as a grim, silent warrior type, ready to snap into violence at the first opportunity. If she's guarding someone or taking orders from them, then she is fiercely loyal and very aggressive in her protection of them, though she will listen if told to hold back.
In settings that allow for powers, I prioritize giving her telekinesis and regenerative abilities if having her full spread is too much. In any setting that allows for children with magic powers (or, subjected to experiments for superpowers or lab-grown for special abilities), she tends to be one of those if they escaped and/or were discarded and left to grow up on their own, and carries resentment to anyone resembling her former authority or guardian figures. She's either working for a cult, trying to scrape by on her own after losing everything, or trying to carve out a space with others like her, depending on what makes a more interesting story for the prompt or setting!
Overall: If you're not sure, message me! I view RP as fun story collaboration so I'm happy to work towards playing out something interesting, even if that means making Selene the bad guy, or dialling her back for fairness!
OOC
Backtag: yes, whether that's replying to a thread that's been on pause for a month, or if you found an old top level in a meme from weeks ago
Reminders: If it's been a week and I haven't got back to you, you're welcome to give me a poke! Sometimes time just slips right by, so it's good to get a reminder!
Threadjacking: only if it's something loose and borderline meta like a texting meme, truth or dare meme, askreddit meme, etc. Anything longform, I'd prefer you asked first!
Tag Revision: If you need a better hook or if I get a detail wrong, message me and I'll work out an edit!
IC
Injury/Illness/Death: If you want to do something dramatic to Selene, or want her to do something dramatic to you, let me know so I can take the scene there! Otherwise, I tend to assume any attacks are near-misses or nonthreatening (up to your discretion), and anything landed on Selene will heal quickly.
Mind Reading: Her thoughts are a clutter of wordless anger and suspicion, with underlying pain deep down under it all. Probably feels like gently patting a sea urchin. And, of course, whatever you want to take from my tag's narration! Message me if you'd like more details/specific answers!
Physical Affection/Touching at all: I'm fine with it, but unless you are a child or she trusts you a lot, Selene will not react well.
Flirting: You can try, but it'll go over her head if you're lucky, and just annoy her if you're not.
Sex: She's not interested.
